The Biden Administration seems to have started panicking about the efforts to recall Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom in California.
President Joe Biden announced Thursday that he endorses Gavin Newsom despite the ongoing recall efforts against the governor. This development served as evidence that the Dems have started to worry about the possibility of Newsom being recalled as governor.
Push to Recall Gavin Newsom Is Reaching Its Homestretch
Per a Politico report, Biden has come to the California governor’s defense while the White House mulls a larger role. On Thursday, the president endorsed the California governor against a recall vote, hinting that the White House may help the California governor in the said race’s final weeks.
Biden’s administration has already said that it opposed the vote to oust Newsom. However, the president’s statement came on a different order of magnitude, and he made it while the White House was considering deploying Biden, VP Kamala Harris – or both – to back the California governor up.
In a statement, the president said: “Governor Newsom is leading California through unprecedented crises. He is a key partner in fighting the pandemic and delivering economic relief to working families and helping us build our economy back better than ever. He’s taking on the climate crisis and standing up for the rights of women, immigrants, and the LGBTQ community. He knows how to get the job done because he’s been doing it. And to keep him on the job, registered California voters should vote no on the recall election by September 14 and keep California moving forward.”
According to a source familiar with White House planning, both the president and vice president intend to play an active role in the campaign’s critical final weeks. This could include appearances in person or support over social media.
