Facebook and Twitter Remove Trump’s Post on Coronavirus Misinformation
President Trump shared a video that reportedly contains misinformation about the coronavirus. After he shared it online, both Facebook and Twitter both decided to take action.
“This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from COVID-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation,” said Facebook spokesperson Liz Bourgeois.
Fox News reported that in the removed video, Trump told “Fox & Friends” that schools should remain open.
“My view is that schools should be open,” Trump said. “If you look at children, children are almost — and I would almost say definitely — but almost immune from this disease.”

Facebook says this is the first time they took down a post from the president on misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tweet is “in violation of the Twitter rules on COVID-19 misinformation,” according to a Twitter spokesperson. Also, the social media site will require the Trump campaign will “to remove the Tweet before they can Tweet again.”
On the other hand, Trump campaign spokesperson Courtney Parella said that President Trump stated a fact. She said the president was “stating a fact that children are less susceptible to the coronavirus,” as reported by Fox News.
“Another day, another display of Silicon Valley’s flagrant bias against this President,” she said. Parella also aired that such companies enforce rules in a single direction only. She also said, “Social media companies are not the arbiters of truth.”
According to a review of the latest available data by the Kasier Family Foundation, “while children who are infected with COVID-19 are more likely to be asymptomatic and less likely to experience severe disease (though a small subset become quite sick), they are capable of transmitting to both children and adults.”
