According to presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, while he won’t tear down President Trump’s wall along the United States’ southern border with Mexico, he will also not continue construction of the barrier if he’s elected president in November, Fox News reported.

“There will not be another foot of wall construction in my administration,” Biden said during an interview, as reported by The Dallas Morning News. “I’m going to make sure that we have border protection, but it’s going to be based on making sure that we use high-tech capacity to deal with it. And at the ports of entry — that’s where all the bad stuff is happening.”

Fox News reported that the border wall was one of Trump’s signature proposals during his 2016 presidential campaign. Only 277 miles of the wall have been completed to date. However, on Tuesday, the president promised that “it will be almost finished by the end of the year.”

Biden to Discontinue “Remain in Mexico: Program

According to The Dallas Morning News, Biden said during an interview that he’d end other key Trump initiatives on immigration. He would also discontinue the “Remain in Mexico” program.

“We have to make sure that we build up the infrastructure to be able to accommodate Trump’s cruel and inhumane border policies … ripping children from their mother’s arms and Trump’s migrant protection protocols, you know: Remain in Mexico program,” Biden said. “I mean, all of this is going to take time, not a long time, but it’s going to take, you have to be prepared, so we don’t create another crisis.”

According to Biden, together with halting construction of the wall, if elected, he would end land confiscations along the border that were taken to build the wall.

“End. Stop. Done. Over. Not going to do it. Withdraw the lawsuits. We’re out. We’re not going to confiscate the land,” Biden said.
