New photographs showing what is happening inside one of the Biden administration’s facilities for the migrant surge at the southern border have surfaced. It shows harrowing conditions that migrant children are being kept under as the border crisis rages on.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) shared the photos to Axios. They were taken inside a temporary surge facility by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, particularly in Donna, Texas. The photos show hundreds of migrant kids packed into small rooms while they wait for their transfer to the Department of Health and Human Services’ long-term facilities.

Because of the surge in migrants and of the government's lack of preparation, many migrant kids ended up in such facilities for a longer time than what the law permits.

A Rare Look Inside Surge Facilities

These photos serve as a rare look inside such facilities. The current administration has allegedly blocked the media and enforced an “unofficial gag order” on the agents at the border. This limits the agents' ability to give information to journalists.

According to Axios, the eight “pods” inside the surge facility can house a maximum of 260 people. However, as per Cuellar, one such pod contained over 400 unaccompanied male minors.

Cuellar also said that the Border Patrol is trying to do its best for the situation. However, they do not have the right resources to care for the children. The lawmaker said that Border Patrol needed help from the Biden administration.

Cuellar then echoed the sentiments of many that they have to stop families from Central America from making the dangerous journey just to enter the U.S. He added that they should work with the Central American countries to let these people apply for asylum from there instead.

With this, Cuellar did mention that he did not see the facilities or take the photos himself. He did confirm, however, that the said photographs were taken over the weekend.
