- Kevin Davies, a 7th grader, was suspended for 30 days for turning in a knife he found in his backpack.
- The school tried to give him a full year suspension but dropped it down.
- They also called Kevin's locally run football team to try and get him kicked off of that as well, the Coldwater Rocket Football program refused.
Coldwater, Michigan doesn't believe in rewarding its students. In fact, they believe in punishing them. Kevin Davies, a 7th grader in Branch County, found a pocket knife in his backpack. Kevin's mother claimed she purchased it at Goodwill and never searched the bag before she bought it. So when Kevin found the knife in his bag he brought it to a counselor. What was his reward for doing the right thing? He was suspended.
Kevin's mother Denise Davies said, “He was turning it over like he was supposed to, and you are punishing him for doing what's right. He pulled it out and his counselor was standing there, and he says can I call my mom? And she's like why do you need to call your mom. He says well, I found this, this isn't mine.”

The school rules say that this type of an incident results in an automatic year of suspension. Yet, they dropped it down to 30 school days. The school, however, didn't stop there. The consequences of doing the right thing didn't stay within the halls of the school, they spilled out onto the football field. That's right. The school also wanted to keep Kevin off the football team because of the incident.
Denise said, “The school told me he could not go on their property, he could not play; he can't ride the bus with his team because it's a Coldwater bus.”
Coldwater Rocket Football is a locally run football program that has no ties to the school district. They claimed that the school district called the Rocket Football program to get them to kick Kevin off of their team. They, of course, refused.
Denise said, “I understand the violence stuff that's going on in schools, I said but when you get some boys that are honest and turns it in–he wasn't trying to hide it–and then he's getting punished for it.”
Coldwater Community Schools does not disclose information regarding the discipline of individual students under any circumstance. However, discipline procedures are in our student handbook and are consistent with Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education policies which comply with the current laws of the State of Michigan regarding student discipline.

A total lack or common sense, and the failure to ask some questions and get to the bottom of the situation. School administrators who should NOT be school administrators!

This sounds just right doesnt it you have an honest young man and he gets screwed by this liberal politically correct stupid school board. They need to be fired and replaced by some responsible parents that care about the kids not some political bullcrap
This is ABSURD!!! This amazing young man took this to his counselor and asked to call his mom. But instead of listening to him and understanding what he was trying to explain, they just slammed the door on him and he was guilty as charged!!! No chance to explain or see the truth in it all. Then to call his football team an do further damage!! Close the school! Better yet, get someone in there that is human and understands and listens!!! I think the whole school should hold a rally in favor of this brave young student! There are good students, not just trouble makers. What a joke this school is!

He did the right thing by immediately bringing to the attention of the counselor. He knew it was not his and he was simply attempting to dispose of it appropriately.

The kid was doing the right thing. the correct administrative answer would be to keep the knife, call a parent and counsel them……………
Government (including all levels thereof and many of its local school systems is brainless and) cannot be trusted to exhibit common sense. It remains to be seen if those (including citizens , parents and poor foolish kids like the boy in this sorry episode) who remain dumb or naive enough to trust it can learn this truth.
The entire citizenry of the U. S. are ask ” if you see something, say something”, which is exactly what this boy did. So what is he being punished for? What crime?
The student was doing the right thing and the school overreacted and made a bad judgement. They need to pull thier heads out and thank the boy. What kibnd of example does this show the students?
How does anyone expect to teach right from wrong when right is punished. This is some way to treat a young person who did the right and honest thing.

The school’s action is promoting Obama-ism and Clinton-ism; Do not do the right thing or you will be punished. I notice the liberal media doesn’t take a stand against this garbage.
The poor kid is now so confused, If something like this ever happens again he will have second thoughts about what to do.

I stole a silver dollar coin from my uncle back in the 30s. Went to a wrestling match and found my Father, Uncle and the SHERIF waiting for me when I got out. I was 10 years old at the time. I will never forget it. This boy will never forget what has been done to him… The Administration was WRONG!!! The boy was RIGHT!!! but it will not erase this from his mind….Such a pity…
