Border Patrol agents in Texas’s Del Rio Sector experienced an increase of 3,166% in arrests of convicted sex offenders trying to cross the border. These offenders include criminals convicted of sex crimes against children.
Sex Offenders Caught Crossing The Border
Since October 1, the beginning of the fiscal year 2021, border patrol agents arrested 95 convicted sex offenders. This is a 3,166% increase over the same period last fiscal year.
Between May 17 to 24, border agents picked up 10 convicted sex offenders. While checking records, they saw that many of those apprehended have prior records.
This includes forcible sexual assault, sexual assault of a child under 14, sexual conduct with a person under 13, statutory rape, second-degree sexual assault of a child, and lewd and lascivious acts with a child.
“The majority of these criminals were apprehended in our sector’s most remote areas, attempting to avoid detection by crossing far from populated areas,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin Skero said in a statement.
“Our agents’ sign cutting and tracking skills were instrumental in capturing these criminals, preventing them from infiltrating our communities.”
Apart from the Del Rio sector, border patrol agents in other sectors are noticing increased activity. In fact, El Centro Sector arrested three sex offenders on Saturday.
Trump Told You So
During the previous administration, former President Donald Trump made border security a key issue in his 2016 campaign.
He said that when Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. Instead, they’re sending people that have lots of problems, which they’re bringing along with them to the US. This includes people with drug issues, criminals, and rapists.
Liberal news outlets derided Trump’s claims. The Washington POst’s fact check team rated Trump’s claim as “four Pinocchios” which means big fat lies.
Given the increase in arrests this year, these outlets should fact-check again. Or at least, apologize to Trump for accusing him of lying before getting their facts straight.
Biden Removed Protocols
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden removed one measure that protected the borders from an influx of criminals. The Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) processed foreigners who tried to enter the US illegally.
Instead of allowing these migrants to stay in the US, the protocols require migrants to stay in Mexico-based camps while they await hearings. Instead, Biden placed back a “catch-and-release” policy which allowed illegal migrants to stay in the US while awaiting hearings.
However, the number of foreigners who stormed the border increased upon Biden’s assumption of the presidency. In fact, customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents captured almost 100,000 people in February. Last month, agents captured more than 16,000 illegals at the border, according to Pew data.
Biden Administration Blames Trump
By March, the Biden administration, overwhelmed by the border mess, started blaming Trump. Biden officials claim Trump officials didn’t fully cooperate with his transition team.
This hindered their ability to get a realistic view of potential migration. They also accused the Trump team of destroying the immigration and asylum system. – which they then inherited.”
“As we were coming into the administration, we knew we were inheriting an absolute mess from the previous administration — that there were aspects of our legal immigration system that had been gutted and a department that lacked the personnel to administer our laws,” said Julie Chavez Rodriguez, director of the White House’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
